Jarman sets the tone with walk-off to win Game One, sparks series sweep

Montgomery, Ala. - The Lady Eagles hosted Blue Mountain for an SSAC doubleheader on Senior Day. Faulkner set the tone in the first game after they picked up the comeback win with a two-run walk-off homer from Addyson Jarman. The Lady Eagles turned around in game two and put on a great defensive display backed behind the pitching of Hailey O'Brien

Game One saw both teams put on a hitting display as they put up double-digit hits. Faulkner started with three hits in the first inning that helped bring the Lady Eagles two early runs.  Anna Catherine Segrest started the hitting with a double at her first at-bat. Addyson On the next play Jarman put out a single to right field that drove Segrest home to give Jarman the RBI. Jarman then stole second to set herself up in scoring position with Madelyn Becker to come to the plate. Becker singled over the middle to advance Jarman. Pittman took the plate and reached first after a Topper error that allowed Jarman to put the Lady Eagles up 2-0. 

The hits continued to increase throughout the next three innings but saw zero points added to the run columns. The Lady Eagles changed that in the bottom of the fifth when they added two more to their lead. Faulkner put five hits on the board in the bottom of the fifth with two of those sending players across the plate. Abby Terrel sent Campbell Hecklinski home for the RBI. Ashtyn Pannell also had an RBI that brought Terrell home to put Faulkner up 4-0. 

In the top of the sixth, the Toppers pulled within one after putting up three points after some untimely errors from the Lady Eagles. Blue Mountain took advantage of the errors and put the ball in play to send people home to bring the score to 4-3. 

In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Eagles tacked on three more runs to help comfort them from the mistake made in the top half of the inning. The Lady Eagles put two balls into play with a single from Gracie Pittman bringing in the fifth run of the ball game. The Lady Eagles then scored two more after an error from the Toppers allowed Becker and Pittman to score. Blue Mountain quickly ended the inning before Faulkner could tack on any more runs. 

In the top of the seventh, the Topper's bats got hot as they had five late hits that helped put five runs across combined with errors from Faulkner. Lana Atkins came in to relieve Reece Patterson who had pitched over 100 pitches. Atkins was able to get out of the inning with only one run added to the board. The Lady Eagles now down one after leading the entire game headed to the bottom of the frame looking to avoid extras.

The Toppers quickly sat down the first two batters for the Eagles and only needed one out to send the game to the eighth inning. Anna Catherine Segrest singled to center on the next at-bat bringing up the freshman Addyson Jarman

Jarman stepped into the box looking to deliver for the Lady Eagles much like she has all year. After finding herself up 2-1 in the count she took her swing. She lifted the ball to right center and smashed a two-run ball to bring Segrest and her home for the two RBI walk-off. The Lady Eagles completed the comeback to take the first game 9-8 and avoided the Topper comeback win. 

Faulkner 3, Blue Mountain 1

Game Two was a tale of two different stories, as the runs came few and far between. Both teams remained scoreless after two and a half innings. Both teams put up three outs very quickly with Hailey O'Brien picking up four of her seven total strikeouts early. 

The Lady Eagles scored the first point of the game in the bottom of the third after Hecklinski scored on a fielder's choice. 

The Lady Eagles scored again in the bottom of the fifth with Jarman sending Hecklinski home with an RBI single. The Toppers avoided any more runs and sent the game to the top of the sixth. 

The Toppers put their first point of the game in the top of the sixth with an RBI single but Faulkner ended the frame with another strikeout from O'Brien. 

The Lady Eagles tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly out from Hecklinski to bring Allie Wismer home to put Faulkner up 3-1. The Toppers ended the inning and headed to the top of the seventh looking to split the day with the Lady Eagles. 

Faulkner ended the ball game with three quick outs and picked up the sweep over Blue Mountain with the 3-1 game two win. 

Hailey O'Brien finished the game with seven strikeouts and only one earned run. Addyson Jarman ended the day with four hits and four RBIs.Gracie Pittman went four for seven in both games.  Anna Catherine Segrest, Chloe Davidson, Abby Terrell, Ashtyn Pannell, Madelyn Becker and Campbell Hecklinski all had two hits. 

The Lady Eagles (24-12, SSAC 13-9) return to action on Tuesday, April 15th for their last home doubleheader of the season. They host former SSAC foe, Stillman with first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
