MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner played small ball with incredible precision Tuesday to take both ends of a doubleheader from Stillman.
FAULKNER 5, STILLMAN 1
The Lady Eagles did the bulk of their work in the third inning of the opener as
Eavie Polk started the frame with a single ahead of
Chloe Davidson legging out an infield hit.
Anna Catherine Segrest dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners up 60 feet.
Addyson Jarman followed with a single up the middle to drive in Polk.
Madelyn Becker then dropped down a squeeze bunt to get Davidson home. Abbey Terrell later did the same thing to push Jarman across for the 3-0 lead.
Faulkner added one in the bottom of the fourth.
Mandi Hart beat out an infield single before moving up on Polk's sacrifice bunt. Segrest singled to center to plate Hart. The Lady Eagles plated one more in the sixth. Hart singled up the middle and gave way to
Ashtyn Pannell on the basepaths. She advanced on a Polk sacrifice bunt before scoring on Davidson's double to left center.
Reece Patterson (9-6) gave up a solo homer to Avary Lumpkin in the fourth inning but was otherwise extremely efficient. She tossed 89 pitches to work a complete game while allowing five hits and issuing just one walk.
FAULKNER 5, STILLMAN 3
Game two set up in similar fashion for Faulkner as it completed the sweep of the HBCUAC regular-season champions. Davidson drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first before moving up on a Segrest sacrifice bunt. Jarman followed with a triple to put Faulkner up 1-0.
Kensley Wesley dropped down a sacrifice bunt to get Jarman home and push it to 2-0. Terrell later singled to drive in
Madelyn Becker for the 3-0 advantage.
Faulkner added to the lead in the second when they took advantage of a
Campbell Hecklinski leadoff double. She moved up on a Davidson single and scored on a Segrest sacrifice fly to right. The Lady Eagles tacked on a final run in the third. Terrell singled up the middle, moved up on a
Sarah Williams single and got to third on an error. Davidson singled through the left side to drive her in and push the lead to 5-0.
Stillman got three runs across in the sixth inning to cut the score to 5-3. A hustle double in the seventh brought the tying run to the plate for the Tigers before
Hailey O'Brien induced a pop-up to third to end the game.
O'Brien (11-5) struck out 10 batters over seven innings while allowing six hits and issuing two walks to notch the complete game victory.
Faulkner (26-12) travels to Oakwood University Friday for a doubleheader with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
