MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner University held its first developmental football game since 2017 Saturday as the Futures squad downed the Georgia Knights 30-2. The Faulkner Futures managed to get 50 different players into the contest to get collegiate reps.
The Eagles opened the scoring with 7:40 to go in the first when Hayden Wynn connected on a 31-yard field goal. Dylan Smith added to the Faulkner lead with a 14-yard scoring run at the 2:15 mark of the first quarter. Aidan Brown followed with the extra point to make it 10-0. Kion Hinson later picked off a Knights pass with 50 seconds left in the opening half and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown. Wynn added the PAT for the 17-0 halftime lead.
Faulkner continued the onslaught in the third as Demetrius Davis Jr. ran for an 8-yard touchdown ahead of a blocked PAT that the Knights returned for their lone score. Amare Griffin added a 42-yard touchdown run in the fourth, allowing Wynn to cap the scoring with the point-after.
Seth Leebern topped the Faulkner passing attack with 74 yards on six completions. Five different Eagles rushed for at least 25 yards. Cameron Ledbetter topped the defense with six tackles.
Faulkner Futures plays again Sunday, Sept. 21 against Tennessee Valley Christian at 1:30 p.m. at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
