MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner dominated Mobile 6-1 to pick up its 10th win of the season Friday afternoon at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium in another lopsided SSAC victory. The Eagles are the third team in the NAIA to hit double-digit wins.
The Eagles (10-2, 6-1 SSAC) wasted no time getting on the board as
Bernardo Juca crossed to Pepé Riofrio on the backpost who slid home the first goal 57 seconds into the match.
It marked the third straight match with a goal contribution for Riofrio and the sixth straight for Juca.
Juca found his 11th goal of the year in the 10th minute when
Matheus Magnusson passed to the winger in the defensive half. Juca dribbled past his defender and dodged a couple more tackles before sliding home the second goal of the match.
Just six minutes later, Riofrio found a free-running
Leo Freire who later linked up with Juca for the 12th goal of the freshman's season and marking the fourth straight match with two goals and third straight with at least one assist.
In the 23rd, Juca made a run down the left wing and squared to
Asaph Silveira who was running free on the right for the buried finish to put four goals past the Rams, who had only conceded 10 times all season before the match, before the hydration break.
In the 49th minute,
Gunner Blanchard's cross was blocked out and fell to Silveira who rocketed a far post finish past a near post crashing defense to make it 5-0 and give the Belo Horizonte, Brazil native his fourth goal of the year.
Mobile (5-3-4, 2-2-3 SSAC) got one back in the 58th, but 37 seconds later Juca was brought down in the box before giving the penalty to
Konsti Witte. The German forward struck it home easily for the sixth and final tally of the game.
Faulkner allowed seven shots on goal with
Andre Ferreira saving six.
The Eagles have scored 27 goals in the five match conference homestand, better than 14 different entire seasons of scoring in the program's history. The six conference wins ties the record set last year with four matches to play in the SSAC.
The Eagles remain in second in the SSAC and will travel to Blue Mountain Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
