WALESKA, Ga. - The Eagles brought the tying run to the plate in the 9th, but fell shy of a comeback against Reinhardt Wednesday afternoon at Ken White Field in a 6-3 result.
Reinhardt's first run came when Charles Smith was hit by a pitch before advancing on a wild pitch and a groundout before scoring on another wild pitch. An error and a walk came back to roost in the third with two unearned runs scoring to make it a 3-0 deficit.
Jordan Carter launched a solo homer in the top of the fifth to cut into the lead. It was Carter's fourth extra-base hit in the last four games.
Jackson Rains drove in a pair of runners who reached to start the bottom of the seventh for Reinhardt to make it a four run lead before scoring on a sacrifice bunt two batters later.
Faulkner started a ninth inning rally when
Alex Gonzalez was hit by a pitch and
CJ Robertson singled to put runners on the corners.
Jimmy Perez was hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out and Anthony Bassett drove in
Tevin Landrum who replaced Gonzalez to make it 6-2.
Orlando Arellano drove in Robertson on a groundout but Reinhardt was happy to take the two outs. Carter was hit by a pitch allowing the tying run in Edrien Martínez to come to the plate. The third baseman was unable to get a grounder past the shortstop to keep it going as the Eagles fell in their third straight midweek contest.
Carter,
Carter Schellsmidt, and Gonzalez each had multiple hits. Martínez saw his 17 game reaching base streak snapped.
Jordan Carter extended his to 11. Landrum swiped two bags.
Preston Steiner struck out two and gave up just one unearned run in 2.2 innings to open.
Marshall Robinson and
Collin Netto combined for 3.1 innings of shutout relief facing just two above the minimum.
Mat Mayer and
Malachi Bailey worked well to close out the game and give the Eagles a shot in the end, allowing just two baserunners in the last 1.2 innings.
The Eagles get ready to travel to Hattiesburg for the SSAC Series of the Week against rival William Carey. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
