Mobile takes Faulkner in four

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner was looking to ride the momentum from Tuesday's big win over Spring Hill into tonight's crucial Southern States Athletic Conference match against Mobile. The Lady Eagles took the win in the opener, but ultimately fell to the Rams in subsequent sets 19-25, 25-11, 25-23, 25-23.

The home team gained the 1-0 advantage early in the evening despite countless blunders the lack of which would have made the job significantly easier.

The win was abruptly followed by a heavy mental glitch, however, that allowed Mobile to gain equal footing.

The Rams then clinched the toe-to-toe battle in the third set before slingshotting into a commanding lead late in the final round.

Mobile held a 23-16 lead in the decisive set, but Faulkner managed to apply the parking break for a shot period of time. The Lady Eagles orchestrated a 7-2 run, but it proved too late in the competition to alter the outcome.

Mobile had four hitters with double-digit kills and hit .219 in the match.

Faulkner managed to out-block the visitors 10 to eight, but the Ram firepower proved the deciding factor.

Alysa Klassen led the way for the home team with 11 kills, hitting .304. The sophomore middle also had five total blocks.

Fellow middle Brittnay Renfroe was also on point with 10 kills, hitting. 364. The senior also had five total blocks.

Jordan Jones had 19 assists on the night while fellow setter Morgan Wilson offered up 17 and added 11 digs.

Libero Lindsey Ortner had 21 digs to lead the defense.

"Sometimes we're our own worst enemy," said head coach Tori Bartels. "Be play extremely well and then collapse mentally and then spend the rest of the night trying to pull ourselves out of a hole. I saw some things tonight that were extremely frustrating and then on the flip side, I saw some of the most heart I've seen all year. We've got to level things out. I'm proud of a lot of things tonight, but I also think that win was obtainable and that's not what happened."

The loss marked Faulkner's third straight in league play. The Lady Eagles sit at 13-8 overall and 3-5 in the SSAC. The team hosts Loyola in conference action tomorrow at 2 p.m.
