Late corner kick effort lifts Florida Memorial over Faulkner 3-2

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner suffered its first loss of the season this afternoon when Florida Memorial pouched in the game-winning goal on a corner kick play in the 84th minute to earn the 3-2 victory here at John Mark Stallings Field.

Alec Daley put the home team on the board in the 35th minute when he collected a deflection off the Memorial goalkeeper and tucked it away for the lead.

The Lions' Jose Vidal Bazterrica virtually mirrored that effort just two minutes later when he knocked home a shot on a ball that got away from Faulkner keeper Pritchard Ndaira.

Memorial then gained control 13 minutes into the second half when Henrique Rezek made good on a free kick.

Costandinos Whitehead went to work for Faulkner six minutes later when he orchestrated a steal and goal combination to move the event into a tie.

That tie was nullified with just six minutes on the clock, however, when Patricio Guerra Jofre jettisoned the winning shot into the netting on a Henrique Rezek corner blast.

Ndaira (3-1-1) suffered the loss in the 10-save performance while allowing three goals.

Faulkner 3-1-1 travels to Delta State on Sept. 20 for a 3:30 p.m. showdown with the Statesmen.
