MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles couldn't find a way past Courtney Link and the (RV) Middle Georgia defense Thursday evening in a 2-0 defeat.
Despite several great looks, the Knights' goalkeeper, Link, made seven stellar saves to keep Faulkner out of the net.
Annabel Cuthbert threatened on goal all evening with five shots on target, but couldn't get past the netminder.
Middle Georgia took the lead in the ninth minute before doubling it in the 61st minute.
Despite the loss, the Lady Eagles have reason to be proud of the effort and carry confidence forward. "I think we played really well tonight," head coach
Pritchard Ndaira said. "[Middle Georgia] happened to finish their chances and we didn't. I think the girls competed hard from start to finish. We know we are good enough to compete at this level"
Keila Cardeiro also stopped seven shots in the loss.
Faulkner sits at 10 points in the SSAC standings and tied with Life for the fourth seed, but the Running Eagles hold the tiebreaker due to the earlier result in the head-to-head matchup. Life still has two matches to play, Blue Mountain and Brewton-Parker. Both the Lady Eagles and Running Eagles sit two points behind Mobile who has matches with William Carey and Blue Mountain to play. Faulkner sits four points ahead of Blue Mountain, who they own the tiebreaker over for the five seed. Faulkner has not wrapped up a playoff spot yet as they could finish anywhere from third to eighth. Seeds No. 3 and No. 4 each host a first round contest.
Faulkner takes on Brewton-Parker Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with senior day set for 1:10. With a win, the Lady Eagles secure a postseason spot and will watch scores from around the conference next week to see where and when they will play.
