WEST POINT, Ga. – One day after Faulkner had its win streak snapped at Cumberland, it bounced back with a 19-2 trouncing of Point University. The Eagles hung seven runs on the board in the top of the first inning Tuesday and never looked back.
Shawn Ross doubled home
Sammy De La Cruz to open the scoring.
Justice Lucas drew a bases-loaded walk to force in
Juan Trinidad.
Jordan Funk singled home Ross and
Alex Arauz to push the lead to 4-0.
Evan Gilliam followed with a three-run homer to move the advantage to 7-1.
The Skyhawks got a run back in the home half of the first before Faulkner's bats got back to work again in the third.
Jack Brinkley's single drove in
Kevin Saenz. Gilliam scored on an error to make it 9-1 before Arauz's bases-loaded walk plated Brinkley. Another error allowed Arauz and Ross to score, pushing the lead to 12-1.
Ross singled in Brinkley in the fourth to make it 13-1 before Lucas drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to stretch the advantage to 14-1. Arauz hit a two-run homer in the sixth before
Kam Wells stroked a three-run shot in the frame.
The offensive performance was more than enough to back the effort of
Chance Denson. In his longest outing as an Eagle, Denson worked five innings, allowing just three hits and a walk.
Hunter Dupuy followed with two scoreless innings that included three strikeouts and one hit.
Faulkner (14-10, 5-1 SSAC) returns to action Friday at 6 p.m. when it hosts Blue Mountain.
