MOBILE, Ala. - A match that was heavily contested between (RV) Faulkner and #7 Mobile ended much more lopsided than the match actually felt Saturday as the Rams scored three late tallies in just over four and a half minutes to end the regular season in a 5-1 loss.
The Eagles struck first just four minutes into the match as
Julio Souza got to the end of a pass from
Antoine Marques to take a 1-0 lead in a match that would have set up Faulkner with a home match in the first round of the SSAC Men's Soccer Championship with an upset victory.Â
The Rams equalized in the 18th and took a 2-1 lead from a corner just before halftime.Â
As Faulkner was pushing for the tying and winning goals, Mobile capitalized in the 83rd before scoring again in the 86th and 87th to hammer the nail in the match.Â
The Eagles finish the regular season with a program best 11 wins overall and six wins in conference play but will still hit the road for the first round as the five seed and begin the toughest conference championship playoffs in the nation against the fourth-seeded (RV) Thomas Nighthawks and seek to avenge the controversial loss to the new league foe Friday at 2:30 central with the winner set to face the winner of Mobile and Blue Mountain in the semifinals Nov. 8.Â
