MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A hard-fought game ended in heartbreak Wednesday afternoon at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium as a stellar defensive effort came up short as an own goal in the 87th minute proved to be the only difference as the Lady Eagles fell 1-0 to Dalton State.
Faulkner battled through several knocks throughout the match that caused a lot of changes, but held strong despite the peppering from Dalton State's attack on the goal. The Roadrunners fired 20 shots on the afternoon after nearly 17 minutes elapsed before the first shot of the match, but they could not get past Keila Cardeiro who stopped 10 shots on goal including a highlight-reel save at the end of the first half.
The decisive moment came when the Roadrunners countered a Faulkner attack deep into the match and a really unlucky clearance attempt well outside the box curled into the net for the only goal in the last two meetings between the sides.
The Lady Eagles look to rebound when the No. 1 team in the country, William Carey, enters Billy D. Hilyer Stadium Saturday morning for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
