MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner used a third quarter three-point barrage to turn the game around and knock off William Carey 72-62 Saturday afternoon. Trailing 32-26 at halftime, the Lady Eagles got a triple from
Nequoia Adams and another from
Morgan Holland in the first 90 seconds of the third quarter to tie it. A
Kinlee Varnell make from deep at the 7:36 mark and another from
Evaiah Burrows 28 seconds later cemented a 12-0 run and put Faulkner in the lead to stay.
Neely Johns made the fifth three of the frame with 1:57 left in the period to move the lead to 45-39.
"Today was a great day for Faulkner! Our team beat a very strong William Carey squad. Beyond the favorable outcome of the game was an awesome Pink Out event that appropriately honored our fans that are in the daily battle of surviving cancer," Head Coach
Reed Sutton said. "Our campus community went all out to show them respect and honor. Our theme with the team today was 'play through it.' No one 'plays through it' like the strong warriors fighting cancer. We love and appreciate all survivors today!"
The Lady Eagles got the lead to 10 with a
Bridget Johnson jumper with 7:02 left in the game and scarcely looked back from that point forward. Faulkner poured in 46 points in the second half to finish off its 20th win of the season. The victory marked the first time the Lady Eagles hit the 20-win mark since 2017-2018.
Adams had 17 points to go along with seven assists, five rebounds and four steals.
Angela Grant had 14 points and 14 rebounds for her 40th career double-double.
Morgan Holland added 11 points in the effort.
Faulkner limited William Carey to 36.8 percent shooting from the floor and 29.6 percent from three. The Lady Eagles shot 37 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. They also won the rebounding battle 45-36.
Faulkner (20-6, 12-4 SSAC) plays its final home game of the regular season Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against Stillman.
