MOBILE, Ala. - It took late dramatics, but the Eagles found a way to get a deserved result when
Alex Barros headed home a cross from
Esteban Weimann in the 89th minute to claim a 1-1 draw with Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) Thursday night at The Jungle.
Embry-Riddle (0-1-2) took the lead in the 28th minute when the only two shots on goal allowed by the Eagle defense all evening resulted in a terrific save that fell unluckily to an open Roei Nir on the rebound with a wide open goal to redirect the ball into.Â
Faulkner (1-0-1) controlled the match in every statistical category, but were under pressure to find the equalizer constantly. The breakthrough started when José Lucca cleaned up a two-on-two opportunity for Embry-Riddle to ice the game away with a lung-busting run to intercept a pass and give Faulkner possession with just about 90 seconds left to play. Lucca found Weimann who passed into the middle to
Caden Maldonado who quickly found
Leo Freire. Freire saw Weimann making a run into space down the left wing and the Paraguayan dribbled into the box before a left footed cross found Barros sneaking past his marker and diving home the header with just 75 seconds left in the match.
The goal was Barros's second in as many matches and Weimann's first assist for the varsity squad.Â
Faulkner outshot ERAU 15-4 and has only allowed two shots on goal in its first 180 minutes of the season.Â
The Eagles return to Mobile Saturday to take on SCAD-Savannah at 11 a.m. It will be the third straight season meeting with the Bees in three different locations.
