Lady Eagles beat a top-10 team, finish fifth as Sanders shoots best event

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Faulkner bested a top-10 team and another top-25 foe as the impressive start to the Faulkner Women's Golf season continued with a fifth place finish in the highly-competitive Seahawk Shootout Monday and Tuesday hosted at PGA National by the reigning national champions Keiser with an 88-over-par on the three-round event paced by senior leadership from Hannah Sanders finishing fourth overall.

The Lady Eagles finished behind the hosts who won the event by 12 shots over NCAA DII Palm Beach Atlantic and behind both No. 4 SCAD Savannah and No. 12 SCAD Atlanta to finish fifth ahead of reigning SSAC champions and national No. 6 William Carey by six shots. It was the first time the Lady Eagles have beaten the Lady Crusaders since the 2018 SSAC Championship en route to the NAIA National Tournament. Faulkner also bested No. 24 Coastal Georgia by eight strokes.

Sanders picked up the podium finish with a consistently improving round score with a four-over-par first round, three-over-par second and a two-over-par third to finish tied for fourth with Lawrence Tech's Tanawan Vetchayanvivat. Sanders turned in her lowest score to par in her career with a nine-over-par 21 while picking up her best final placement, improving upon her seventh place finish at the Skyhawk Fall Invitational last year. She shot 10 birdies on the par-70 Match Play course.

Shelby Hughes finished in a five-way tie for 23rd in the 60 golfer field led by a six-over-par first round to end 25-over-par on the event.

Alba Pardo and Sofia Gorgees Baeta also constantly got better over the event to finish as two of the three tied for 28th with a 27-over-par 237. Pardo closed the event with an eight-over-par third round while Gorgees Baeta turned in a five-over-par final round.

Eden Shipp finished 44th with a 49-over-par finish with a 15-over-par first round as her low 18.

Faulkner's busy September continues at the Bojangles Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Wesleyan Sept. 28-29 in Vonore, Tenn. at the Links at Kahite. It will be the third event in the ninth month of the year.
