Four-golfer Faulkner finishes second at BMCU Spring Classic

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Faulkner showed quality and depth with the four women's golfers competing in the BMCU Spring Classic hosted at the Mississippi State University Golf Course finishing second as a team with two top-ten finishes from Hannah Sanders who earned her first runner-up medal of her Faulkner career and Sofia Gorgees Baeta's consistent play to place seventh individually as well a couple of season-high placements from Eden Shipp and Shelby Hughes.

Unable to drop a low score, all four Lady Eagles had no margin for error on the event.

Sanders placed in the top five for the third time this season jumping into first with a one-over-par 72 on Monday with three birdies before knocking down three more in the second round en route to a five-over-par second to sit in second place on the leaderboard coming into Tuesday's third round. Sanders shot three more birdies in the last round, shooting a two on the par-three eighth and a four on the par-five 18th for the second straight round to finish tied for second, three shots ahead of fourth and two shots off the individual win from UT Southern's Iona Pollitt.

Gorgees Baeta earned her fifth top 10 placement of the season with an 18-over-par 231 carding a five-over-par first, seven-over-par second and six-over-par third. Her event was highlighted by an awesome bounce back after a tough 14th hole in the second round, putting three birdies together out of the last four holes.

Hughes finished higher than 40 other golfers, the most she has beaten as a Lady Eagle, highlighted by an eight-over-par 79 in the second round. She had two birdies in the first round and finished the entire event with a 40-over-par 253.

Shipp placed 43rd with a 49-over-par 262 led by a 15-over-par first round closed out with a birdie and ended up beating 24 golfers, the most of the season for the junior from Kansas City.

The Lady Eagles turn their attention to the SSAC Women's Golf Championship set for April 14-16 at RTJ Cambrian Ridge in Greenville, Alabama.
