MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - Games in hand only matter if you cash them in, and that is what the Eagles were able to do tonight. Faulkner picked up a big three points in a logjammed SSAC Men's Soccer standings with a 3-1 win at Brewton-Parker Thursday night with a goal early and a couple of goals late.
The Eagles got ahead early when
Iago Ramm picked out
Leo Freire in the fifth minute. Freire converted the one-on-one for the Rio de Janeiro native's 17th career goal, moving him into a tie for fourth all-time in goals with Sidaly Toure (2009-12). It was Ramm's fourth assist of the season, becoming the fourth Eagle to hit that total.
Brewton-Parker ramped the pressure up in Interim Head Coach Nicolas Mayanguila Mboungou's first match with 10 shots and four on target saved by
Andre Ferreira before a wayward pass found
Pedro Trinidade with space from distance in the 78th. The São Paulo native curled a perfect shot into the side that gave the keeper no chance of saving it. Just two minutes later, Faulkner put the game out of reach with a great dribble from
Angel Ugwumba who passed to
Konsti Witte for Konsti's ninth goal of the season to tie his assistant for the team lead.
Brewton-Parker managed to get one back on a follow-up rebound but Faulkner held on for the win.
Faulkner moves to a tie for fourth place with UT Southern with two games in hand but the slate does not get easier. Faulkner takes on a Thomas side that the Eagles have not seen a victory away at in the last four trips Saturday afternoon.
