Phillips steps down, Lockwood named interim

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Colby Phillips officially stepped down as head coach of Faulkner women's soccer, leaving current assistant Ainsley Lockwood to assume the role of Interim Head Coach.

Phillips departs after two seasons, having the fourth best winning percentage in the program's history with trips to the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament in both seasons. Under his leadership, Faulkner was exceptional at protecting leads with a 12-2-2 record when scoring first. Off the field, the Lady Eagles excelled in the classroom, placing 29 on the All-Academic team. The team carries a 3.27 cumulative grade point average.

Lockwood just completed her first season as a full-time assistant coach after concluding her playing career in 2024. With her assistance, the squad went 7-10-1 overall and made an SSAC
Tournament appearance.

As a player, she appeared in 72 contests for Faulkner with 62 starts along the front line, back line and midfield. She scored 16 goals and assisted 11 more while playing over 4500 minutes. She ranks 10th in program history for goals and sixth in assists. Lockwood helped the Lady Eagles get to two SSAC semifinals in her playing time, the first two since 2012.

Lockwood will serve in the role while the athletic department conducts a comprehensive search for the next Faulkner women's soccer head coach.
