No. 19 Spring Hill too much for Faulkner

Box Score

MOBILE, Ala. - Faulkner was looking to do what no team had done so far this season, knock off No. 19 Spring Hill and put a dent in the Badgers' undefeated season. The home team proved a dominant force however, and clinched the Southern States Athletic Conference match in straight sets 25-8, 25-17, 25-16 to move to 28-0.

In the previous matchup between the two teams, Faulkner jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Tonight was a different story.

Spring Hill exploded to a 17-3 lead in the opening set before Faulkner converted its first kill. The Lady Eagles played more competitive volleyball in sets two and three, but were unable to hang with the Badgers.

Defensively the teams were evenly matched at the net with Spring Hill logging nine total team blocks, while Faulkner managed seven. The Badgers out-dug the Lady Eagles 46 to 35, but it's the offensive numbers that tell the story

Spring Hill hit .274 as a unit and was led by none other than Yiting Cao who connected with the floor 15 times. The senior right side hit an impressive .560 on the night.

The next closest threat for the Badgers was Sha Sha Buchanan who tallied six kills, hitting .214.

Faulkner, on the other hand, was plagued by hitting errors which ultimately brought the team hitting total to zero.

Three of Faulkner's top four hitters where in the negative, something that hasn't happened all season.

Standouts for Faulkner included Autumn Benson who led the team with six kills, hitting .333.

Jessica Long had three kills, hitting .286, and added a pair of blocks. Ariel Riley put down two of her four attempts at the net.

Neysa Hernandez led the team with 12 digs and had three total blocks. KK Lo had 10 assist followed by Morgan Wilson with eight.

The Lady Eagles have three conference matches remaining in the season and must win all of them to try and force a three-way tie in the West.

Faulkner moves to 17-13 overall and 2-9 in the league. The Lady Eagles travel to Pulaski, Tenn., to take on Martin Methodist Friday evening at 7 p.m. Faulkner defeated the Redhawks in five sets in a previous matchup this season.
