Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner hosted Southern States Athletic Conference rival Spring Hill tonight at Tine W. Davis Gymnasium. The Lady Eagles were hoping to level out their league recored at 1-1, but the Badgers blanked the home team in straight sets 25-21, 26-24, 25-11.
Faulkner dug itself into a big hole early in set one. The Lady Eagles trailed 12-3 before they started to bandage the wounds. The home team made up major ground just over half way through and pulled the set back into competition, but the Badgers showed no signs of letting up.
Faulkner looked as if it had the second set all but put away leading 23-20 at a Spring Hill timeout. The Badger pause proved effective and the match took a turn with Spring Hill taking a 24-23 lead. Back and forth battle ensued and Spring Hill came out on top in extended play.
The final set revealed a Faulkner team that struggled with even basic tasks. A lackluster serve receive and poor passing kept the offense from becoming much of a threat. This low level performance coupled with a systematic Spring Hill offense resulted in a devistating loss.
Sha Sha Buchanan led the Badger attack with 12 kills, hitting .286, and added three aces.
Megan Haber had 11 kills and hit .391.
Brittnay Renfroe had eight kills for Faulkner, hitting .300.
Taylor Dollison also had eight kills and added a pair of blocks.
The home team switched to a 5-1 offense around freshman Sarah Ford who had 30 assists on the night.
Lindsey Ortner and Anna DeRamus split the dig lead with nine each.
Faulkner dropped to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the SSAC. Faulkner will host conference titan Mobile tomorrow at 1 p.m.
