Spring Hill handles Faulkner in straight sets

Box Score

MOBILE, Ala. - Faulkner opened weekend action here in Mobile this evening against Southern States Athletic Conference foe Spring Hill. The Badgers' explosive offense proved too much for the Lady Eagles and the home time clinched the victory in straight sets 25-15, 25-14, 25-17.

Faulkner kept Spring Hill somewhat contained early in the opening set, but the Badgers sparked an 8-0 run at 12-10 that forced a gap the Lady Eagles couldn't close.

Set two was nothing short of a nightmare out of the gate as the home team pounded its way to a 15-3 lead. The Lady Eagles managed to battle out of the deficit and connected for six unanswered points of their own, but the Spring Hill lead was too heavy to overcome.

The final bout saw the Badgers drop incremental wedges in the scorecard throughout the set. Spring Hill produced a four-point run early and then connected for three separate six-point runs to keep the visitors at bay.

Middle Brittnay Renfroe led the Faulkner offense with six kills, hitting .250.

Outside hitter Sarah Stout had four kills and added four digs and two blocks. Middle Alysa Klassen also had four kills and four blocks.

Setters Morgan Wilson and Sarah Ford split time feeding the offense and tallied 27 and 25 assists respectively. Wilson was also the dig leader with seven.

"I saw some great things from our substitutions tonight," said head coach Tori Bartels. "I felt like we played well early in the sets and showed a lot of fight in set two, but they're a great program and you can't let them get on runs or it's going to be an up hill climb. I saw some things I want to continue to look at and we'll see what we can throw at Mobile tomorrow. That's a match we really have to win to keep ourselves on target in the conference."

Faulkner dropped to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the league. The Lady Eagles will take on Mobile in an SSAC showdown here Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
