Box Score MOBILE, Ala. - Faulkner was looking to rebound from back to back conference losses over the weekend with a big victory over Spring Hill here this evening. The Lady Eagles finished on top in close sets to start things out and overcame a sizable deficit in the final bout to earn the shutout 25-23, 25-23, 25-22.
Faulkner entered tonight's matchup shorthanded. Starting outside hitter and kill leader Sarah Dubberley suffered a concussion last week and has yet to be cleared for action.
Despite the setback, the Lady Eagles managed to derail the Badgers in straight sets.
Elissa Cargile was a key component in ensuring Faulkner's success. The junior outside hitter, who's struggled in recent matches, blasted the Spring Hill defense with a team-high eight kills while hitting and impressive .400 in the match. She also had two total blocks.
Faulkner held a convincing two-set lead and was toe to toe with the home team in the final set when the Badgers went on a scoring spree.
The Lady Eagles gave way to a 7-0 run that moved Spring Hill into a five-point advantage just past the mid-mark. A well-placed timeout ultimately sparked a 9-0 run for the visitors, however, and the momentum shift proved too much for the Badgers to overcome.
Alysa Klassen and Hannah Shanely had seven kills each and Klassen added an impressive six total blocks.
Brittnay Renfroe had six kills and hit .267.
Libero Lindsey Ortner anchored the back row with 33 serve receptions and 13 digs.
Morgan Wilson and Jordan Jones rotated in the setting position and offered up 16 and 14 assists respectively.
"I'm extremely proud with the effort tonight," said head coach Tori Bartels. "We had some players get back on track and other players stepping up. We need to ride this intensity into Friday evening. We have a tough conference match at home and we can't afford to flip the switch in the opposite direction again."
Faulkner (13-7/3-4 SSAC) will next host Mobile (13-2/6-1 SSAC) in Southern States Athletic Conference play Friday evening at 7 p.m. It will be the first showdown between the two teams this season.
