Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Concordia College-Selma struck twice in the second half while holding Faulkner to a lone goal to earn the 2-1 victory here in Game 1 of the Faulkner Invitational at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
After a scoreless first half the Hornets fired in a pair of goals in less than two minutes in the second.
Costa Whitehead finally answered for the Eagles with 15 minutes to play when he punched a shot through the leg of a hanging defender and under a diving keeper.
Faulkner had plenty of opportunities to score in both halves but kept coming away empty-handed.
Diego da Silva (1-1) had three saves and allowed two goals.
"They had speed but you are the better team and they beat you because they did something you didn't - they came to play," head coach Kyle Beard told his team after the loss. "You're way too good to play like that. You didn't play like a team until the last 10 min of the game and the too late."
Concordia and Milligan (Tenn.) will face off tomorrow in Game 2 of the Invitational. Faulkner will then take on Milligan in the finale set for 1 p.m. on Monday.
