Any record is a great one to hold, but career records require sustained, absurd levels of success saved for the most elite student-athletes. In the final story of the volleyball series, we look at the top 10 of five major stat categories for careers through a program that started in 1997.
-KILLS - Five Lady Eagles all sit within 45 kills of each other between 1297 and 1252 career kills to span second and sixth.
Neysa Hernandez is second all time followed by
Holly Hutcheson's 1286.
Britney Hough holds the fourth spot at 1272. Fifth and sixth are separated by one as
Brittney Barber has 1253 and
Kimber Holt 1252.Â
However, well above those stellar careers is
Brittany Harden's
1787. As we detailed last week, Harden's 2006 with 619 kills carried the water towards that insane career mark that is almost 500 kills above second place. During her career, she hit .260 with a high season of .313 in 2007. Â
Michelle Totty and
Alysa Klassen are the only two others who have eclipsed the 1000 career kills as Totty hit 1117 and Klassen totaled 1023.
Dusty Webb, who was the first volleyball inductee in 2013 after winning the GACC (now SSAC) Player of the Year award in the last campaign, and
April Kendrick solidify the top 10.Â
-ASSISTS - Fairly similar to the kill leaderboard sit the assist with a trio of Lady Eagles close towards the top but a clear ahead leader. Faulkner Athletics Hall of Famer
Ashley Seng set the standard with
4458 assists in her four year career at the turn of the century, saving the most for last with 1853 in her senior campaign of 2003.Â
Carrie Johnson holds second just shy of 4000 at 3909.
Alyssa Stagner follows her in third with 3732 after wrapping up her fantastic Lady Eagle career last season.
Shaleen Knight ended just two assists shy of 3700 from 2006-2009.Â
Katie Musser is the only other Lady Eagle over 3000 as she totaled 3063 in her career that concluded in the NAIA Opening Round in 2018.Â
The top 10 is rounded out by
Lerin Hoback,
Morgan Wilson,
Lexie Emerson,
Miranda Griggs and
Heather Smith.Â
-ACES - Five Lady Eagles have broken the 200 ace mark with
Britney Hough holding the top spot at
246 in her career from 1998-2001 while she also played softball for three seasons. Her 2001 season saw her break the century mark which has only been accomplished by 15 Lady Eagles in a career; one year's work for Hough and
Michelle Totty who also broke 100 in 2001 with 101 and sits third in her career with 224 aces.Â
Lexie Emerson won 226 points from the service line to hold second, edging out Totty's total.
Shaleen Knight and
Holly Hutcheson hit 219 and 215, respectively.
Alyssa Stagner,
Carrie Butler,
Katie Musser,
Lindsey Ortner and
Kelsey Bell round out the top 10 in order.Â
-TOTAL BLOCKS - While every other category's leader wrapped up their careers before the Marvel Cinematic Universe started, the top three blockers were the middle blockers from 2013-2020.
Alysa Klassen is miles above the rest at
567 total blocks. The native of Scottsdale, Ariz. blocked 169 efforts in her sophomore year. By the end of that season, she had 282 blocks which would rank her seventh all-time just from those two seasons.Â
Tori Marchant is one of three to break 400 and ranks second with 463 blocks in her career and she's followed by the "2020" SSAC Player of the Year
Kortney Barnes with 439. There's a gap of 66 blocks between Barnes and fourth place.
Samantha Blair sits fourth with 373, but leads in solo blocks with 164.
Kimber Holt is just two shy of Blair with 371.
Samantha Talley sits a 332 in sixth place ahead of
Brittnay Renfroe's 316 to wrap up the Lady Eagles over 300.Â
Krysyalynn Leomiti,
Ann Dickson and
Dusty Webb round out the top 10 with
Mallory Black just one block behind Webb's 266.Â
-DIGS - Six Lady Eagles have surpassed 2000 career digs, but only one has approached the 3000 mark and came painfully close to it.
Carrie Butler finished her illustrious career with
2995 digs from 2004-2007 with 930 in the 2005 season leading the way. She followed that by surpassing 700 in her junior and senior seasons.Â
Britney Hough had set the bar very high in the earliest days of the program with 2648 digs starting in the second season of the program and running to 2001 and only Butler has been able to leap over it.
Julianne Wilkes nearly surpassed Hough with 2615.Â
The next three on the list are all about 200 digs from each other.
Brittney Barber is comfortably fourth all-time with 2449 career digs,
Jesse Newton follows at 2269 and Holly Hutcheson is sixth with 2069.Â
Michelle Totty holds seventh with 1919,
Ashley Seng totaled 1804,Â
Alyssa Stagner's 1603 and
Hannah Sumner's 1492 close the top 10 with 1603.Â
