Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Faulkner scored the first points of the game Saturday before the momentum swung firmly the other way as it fell to Campbellsville 46-7.
The first half proved largely inauspicious for the Eagles following a successful opening drive.
Evan Eschbach connected on all six of his pass attempts during Faulkner's first possession, hitting five different receivers to help his team cover 55 yards and take a 7-0 lead. Eschbach hit a 12-yard pass play to
Dominik Blair and found
Hunter Burke for 27 yards before getting the ball to
La'Derrick Bell for a 2-yard touchdown strike.
From there, the Tigers took firm control of the game. Charlie Collins scored from a yard out to cap a 75-yard Campbellsville drive that knotted the game. After the teams traded punts, a special teams miscue allowed the Tigers to pounce on a live ball at set up shop at the Faulkner 33. Collins needed just one play to take advantage of the sudden swing as he scored on a 33-yard rush to put CU up 14-7.
Campbellsville looked to swing the game again after it intercepted a pass and returned it to the Faulkner 6 where offensive guard
Garrett Orr made a touchdown-saving tackle. The Eagle defense responded with three consecutive sacks to push the goal-to-go situation all the way back to the 23.
Roc Clemons put down the quarterback on the first play before
Avian Morgan and
Myles Boyd combined for a sack on second down.
Marvin Payton's third down sack forced the field goal try, which proved true off the foot of Colin Fratus from 40 yards out for the 17-7 Tiger lead. Archelaus Smith moved the lead to 24-7 when he scored on a 26-yard touchdown run to cap an 80-yard Campbellsville drive. The Tigers outgained Faulkner 274-97 in the first half while amassing 17 first downs.
Campbellsville started the second half firing as it covered 81 yards in five plays to go up 30-7 with Andre Siler starring on the march as he hauled in a pair of passes including a 17-yard touchdown reception off the hand of Jagger Gillis. A pair of turnovers in the second half helped set up Campbellsville scoring drives as the Tigers went on to limit Faulkner to 212 yards in the game while covering 556 yards of its own.
Drea Shumaker topped the Faulkner offense with 89 yards receiving on eight catches.
Caleb Williams paced the defense with nine total tackles.
Faulkner (2-6, 0-4 MSC) plays again Saturday, Nov. 9 when it hosts Cumberland University.
