PALM HARBOR, Fla. - In a stacked field at the Invite at Innisbrook held at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook, a course ranked 7th toughest on the PGA Tour, Faulkner proved it deserved to be there. The Eagles tied for eighth with a 44-over-par 896 in the 20 team field that featured 18 teams receiving votes or better with Faulkner as one of the two teams on the outside of the poll. Faulkner tied No. 11 Wayland Baptist and bested five other squads in the top 25–including two top-15 teams, and four that were receiving votes.
Individually, the Eagles were paced by
Rodolphe Cicala again who finished with his second top-five finish, tying for fourth with Blue Mountain Christian's Pontus Nordstrom. Cicala eagled the par-five 14th to shoot a four-under-par 67 in the first round which would have tied the final round score of PGA golfer Peter Malnati who won the Valspar Championship on the same course back in March. Cicala finished with a 1-over-par 214 just three shots off the winner and one shot behind second.
Gabriel Dulon finished 31st, bouncing back from a rough first round with brilliant second and third rounds, shooting 2-over-par and even par round to close the tournament.
Juan Cespedes shot consistently through the three round event, carding a pair of five-over-par 76s on Monday before shooting one shot better Tuesday.
Ernest Juglar and
Garrett Jurkofsky finished 93rd and 95th, respectively, just one shot apart from each other. Juglar shot an even-par first round and Jurkofsky trimmed shots off of each round through the event, finishing with an eight-over-par 79 on Tuesday's third round.
Faulkner beat No. 14 St. Thomas, No. 15 Cumberland, No. 17 Truett-McConnell, No. 20 Webber International, No. 22 Point, No. 25 Ave Maria and a quartet of receiving votes squads.
The Eagles head to East Tennessee Oct. 12-13 to play at the Bojangles Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Wesleyan at the Links at Kahite in Vonore, Tenn. for their penultimate fall event.
