COVINGTON, La. – Faulkner men's golf opened its spring season in tremendous fashion by winning the Wolfpack Invitational Tuesday. The Eagles paced themselves six strokes ahead of the field Monday by shooting 2-over par as a team. By the time every competitor made it to the clubhouse Tuesday, the Eagles had carded a 6-over and had pulled away from the rest of the field by 12 strokes.
In total, Faulkner's rounds served as the first and third best team tallies at the Money Hill Golf & Country Club over the course of the two-day event.
Rodolphe Cicala and
Gabriel Dulon tied atop the leaderboard Monday as each turned in a 1-under-par 71.
Ernest Juglar shot an even-par 72 to sit in third play while
Garrett Jurkofsky managed a 4-over-par 76 for the 15th spot.
Day two saw Cicala best Dulon by one stroke to win the individual championship. The 14th hole swung it in favor of Cicala as he shot one-under on the par 3 while Dulon went one over. Otherwise, Dulon shot even on 15 of 18 holes and under on two others. For his part, Cicala shot under par on the third, seventh, 11th, 14th and 15th. Juglar shot 4-over Tuesday to finish in sixth place while Jurkofsky finished in 28th.
Faulkner finished 12 strokes ahead of NCAA Division II Spring Hill and 20 strokes ahead of SSAC foe Abraham Baldwin.
The Eagles get back to work this week in preparation for the Ram Invite at RTJ Magnolia Grove in Mobile. That event is set for Monday and Tuesday.
