Hall of Fame
Charles Russell was recruited to Alabama Christian College in 1971 after a stellar career at Hartselle High School by none other than Coach Willard Tate, a fellow member of the Faulkner Sports Hall of Fame. Standing at 6-5, Russell was one of the quickest big men at the college level, playing primarily on the perimeter for the Eagles. In his two seasons at ACC, he averaged 24 points and 13 rebounds per game. Russell went on to play for the University of Alabama, where he helped lead the Crimson Tide to a pair of Southeastern Conference championships. He averaged 15 points a game during his senior season and was a two-time selection to the SEC’s All-Defensive Team. Following his collegiate playing days, Russell was selected in both the American Basketball Association and the National Basketball Association drafts.
