Jon Hazelip was the head basketball coach and athletic director for nine years between 1973 and 1981, and also served the university as the chairman of the health and physical education department. His Eagles made the junior college state tournament twice, and he was named the AJCA Coach of the Year in 1974. Then called Alabama Christian College, Hazelip guided the Eagles to the small college regional championship in 1981, finishing third in the small college regional tournament.
